DIY: Glitter Feather Frame

1 Dec

If you’ve been to our condo or follow me on instagram, you know how much I love West Elm! It’s one of my favorite home design stores. I recently stopped by their Beverly Blvd. location and fell in love with their holiday decor. I adore anything that sparkles so when I saw this gorgeous feather, I knew I had to buy it. And plus, it was only $9!! After taking it home, I was a little unsure of what to do with it. However, my friend Shilpa had the great idea of framing it so we came up with this simple and festive DIY that costs under $50 (very cheap compared to ready-made art in this size).

Fiddle Leaf Fig

29 Sep

Back in mid-May (2014), we bought our first houseplant: Mr. Figgy. I had seen the Fiddle Leaf Fig in all kinds of design magazines and was immediately drawn to it. I’ve never had a plant before (aside from TJ’s basil plant which I killed within a week) so was hesitant given the steep price tag. However, after reading stellar reviews for Mickey Hargitay Plants in Hollywood, I thought I’d at least stop by and take a look (yea right – do I ever walk out of any store empty-handed???). Below is Mr. Figgy’s 4 month update!

Our First Oversized Art!

8 Sep

Tulum by Max Wanger

Decorating your first home is most definitely a marathon, not a sprint. One year after purchasing our condo, my hubby & I finally splurged and purchased our first piece of oversized art (30×45 to be exact) and had it custom framed! Our ceilings are 10 feet and our living & dining room is one big room so getting a large piece of art was the best way to fill up the space (and it’s still not completely full!). I first saw Max Wanger’s work on designlovefest, and then started following him on instagram. After gushing over his tulum print for a few months, we finally indulged & bought the 30×45 print. Yes, it was expensive but Max is an incredibly talented photographer & artist and I was happy to support him. Plus, if you follow him on instagram, you can take advantage of his occasional 15% off coupons!

The Coastal by Rissa Sandman

2 Sep

I absolutely love etsy. I find so many unique hand-crafted goods which are the perfect accents for our condo. I especially love anything that has gold & white since those are our base accents. When I stumbled upon these coasters made by Rissa at The Coastal, I knew I needed them in my life. Luckily, Rissa happened to be at Unique Los Angeles where we met. She is such a sweet gal and it’s immediately evident that she’s very passionate about her successful business. I encourage you to visit her etsy shop and buy some coasters to embellish your home. :)

How to not lose your wedding ring!!

20 Aug

If you’re like me, you don’t wear your wedding ring 24-7. When I’m relaxing, I like to take off all my jewelry, especially my earrings which always pinch the back of my ears and my wedding ring which gets super tight in the LA heat. I never understand how some girls sleep with all of their jewelry on. Anyway, my trick to always keeping track of my precious ring is to keep a few small ring dishes around the house (in the kitchen, on the coffee table, and next to my bed). I learned this trick from my mom who keeps a ring dish in the kitchen so her ring doesn’t accidentally slip off when she’s cooking. It’s a great way to always have a spot for your ring so it never disappears on you!

DIY Terra Cotta Succulents

11 Aug

I was inspired to make these terra cotta planters after seeing them on Jacqui’s blog, Baby Boy Bakery. [If you haven't read her story about her son, Ryan Cruz, the beautiful red-haired boy full of life, then you must read it now. This is the link to the original post.] When I saw these planters on her instagram, I knew I wanted to try them myself because 1) they were gorgeous, 2) they seemed easy, and 3) I loveeee colorful cacti! Luckily, my twinsie, Karishma from The Mess I Make, was in town for the weekend so we tackled this project together. Keep in mind that the project takes a few days because you need to let the paint dry thoroughly between each coat.

A Review of Society6 Throw Pillows!

1 Aug

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon Society6. I was immediately drawn to their modern and simple prints but was also curious how they could take one design and print it on pretty much ANYTHING you want: a mug, an iPhone case, a tote bag, a wall clock, a duvet (!), a pillow, etc!! I was looking for cute seat cushions for our West Elm Emerson dining table which is made out of reclaimed wood and thus, isn’t the most comfortable for my booty! When I saw the endless selection of prints on Society6′s website, I was pretty excited, especially because for $27 you can buy yourself a 16×16 pillow with the insert. However, a quick Google search revealed below average reviews… and a strict no return policy. :( Since the prices were so low, I decided to take my chances and place an order for 3 pillows. Entry & Bar Area!

28 May

Bar Styling

One of the things I’ve learned about being an interior blogger is that despite the fact that I love the way our home looks as is, I always find myself moving things around when taking photos. Sometimes I wish my eyes could take pictures so they’d turn out exactly how I see something, but I guess that’s what memories are for! This long weekend was jam-packed with dance performances – I danced at a Bollywood-themed high school prom and at a Pakistani wedding in Long Beach. My hubby and I went to our friends’ apartment for game night (yay for Cards Against Humanity!) and we had brunch with my cousins at Bottega Louie (I could go on and on about their gold, marble, and white decor). Somewhere between all of that, we had our new furniture delivered from West Elm and found time to make a few mini improvements to our condo and below are some pictures we took to share. :)

Hardwood Floors!

14 May

When my hubby & I bought our condo back in August 2013, we were SO happy. We loved it as is – it was the perfect size, super modern, and new (we are the first owners). We didn’t consider making any improvements since we were just thrilled to be homeowners. But after a few months of being mesmerized by West Elm catalogues and homes on houzz, I knew I wanted hardwood floors to make our home more “rustic” to fit with our eclectic decor. What a terrific decision it was!!

A Peek Into Our Home

25 Apr

One of the most exciting things about being married is building a home together. My hubby and I bought our condo two weeks before our wedding last year and since then, it’s been a constant work in progress. I’m always thinking of new ways to bring color and life to our home and my hubby is always there to help turn my ideas into reality. Below are a few of my favorite things (with links!). [PS. I know this is a food blog but I've been getting a lot of requests from friends to post about interior design after they see my pix on my instagram account!]
